today's thought: i hope i know what i'm doing, and not slacking..

<< reminisce envision >>

I have a Maths test this Friday, and I am clocking yet another diary entry. Yeah right, whatever happened to my priorities? Anyway. I just needed a break from studying.

Hmm, after the initial enthusiasm that everyone experiences when they start school anew, it is very easy to get into the flow of things, and start to tone down and take your foot off the pedal. Which is what's happening to me. Suddenly, other priorities start to encroach. Apart from the occasional draft on MTGO, most of the time, it was trying to get more money towards my car. Money was a great distracter. To be honest, if I wasn't doing stuff on eBay, I would be studying alot more. Of course, with Jean around it also means that time has to be devoted to her as well, but the important thing is striking that balance.

Maybe I'm still searching for that balance. Maybe it is the oiling of cranial gears after 3 years of mental stagnantation. Maybe its the allure of cash to be made versus the reduced need for a degree. Or maybe it is just the dampening of overtly ambitious goals. At any rate, I am still aiming for 4 HD's. I realize that 4 HD's a pretty good accomplishment, but at least it'll keep me on my toes, and remind myself that I should never settle for anything less than a D. It is either a D, or a HD. And it darn well better be a HD.

Although the recent Econs test has seriously put a dent in those hopes. Scoring a 17/30 for something that accounts for 30% of total assessment, effectively 1 mark = 1%, is quite discouraging. Never mind that I screwed up at the short-answer questions by drawing the wrong diagrams. It was originally a 15, but someone realized that the tutor who marked it shortchanged me severely on a pretty well-written Question 1. At any rate, that doesn't mean that I'm gonna go down without a fight.

I'm not entirely too worried about my Maths test. I don't know why. Either it is because I'm confident, or I am over-confident, or I am just plain lazy and refusing to think too much about it. I know the last Maths test really took its toll on me, as I struggled to grasp key concepts. Maybe it's because after having grasped, or re-grasped, the basics of calculus, I'm much more comfortable with the latter parts. Or am I?

Guess we'll find out only after Friday. After that, I'll be working on finishing the FA assignment, and tying up all the work due next week, and then it is nigh time to do a proper revision. Since my exam dates are relatively spaced out, I have some time in between subjects to study as well. Econs is up first, so of course I'll start work on Econs first. FA's second, so Econs and FA would be studied concurrently. Depending on Maths, I might take out 15 minutes every day to work on a couple of problems just to keep my Maths well-oiled, although the final input of study will depend alot on my score for the upcoming test. As for ITS, alot is dependant on the essay which is due to be marked and returned. If I do pretty well for it, I'll put in little effort to make up for it. ITS is crap. It's supposed to be an easy HD, and I'm confident that I'll definitely get it, but since its an almost non-related elective, I don't mind if I miss that HD either. So if I score like 17/20 for my essay or more, it's green light that I can reduce the workload for ITS by half, and instead focus on Maths. If that is the case, the weeks leading up to Econs and FA would be intensive of both, while the period of time after those and Maths would be intensive Maths with moderate ITS, just so that I know what I'm talking about.

Ok, another day tomorrow. Time to sleep.
