Ok, chop chop chilli blog before it rots. I've been so caught up with... largely doing nothing much ever since I got back. There seems to be alot more to do than to blog. But I figured I really needa get one. Yes yes, I know, my Thanksgiving entry. I started on it. I just haven't got the inspiration to continue with it. Oh well. Most of the time is spent with the girlfriend. We've been places, done stuff and ate goodies. Bangkok's round the corner, and this time round, we are gonna have Internet access in our hotel room, so the girlfriend says she's gonna blog nightly instead of doing so in one batch. Anyhow, I'm gonna blog about something that really riles me. Animalism. As well as animalists. What's that? Well, it all started with me deciding to pick up New Paper one day, to reminisce an old habit. New Paper's still filled with trash and reports not even worthy of a blog. But anyhow, there was this letter written by an outraged pet owner about some restaurant in China serving rabbits. The thing is, this particular owner actually had the gall to demand that rabbits not be eaten because they are cute! Her stand was that while she cannot stop people from eating rabbits directly, it shoudn't be encouraged. Because they are cute! Now, imagine a murderer is spared the death sentence because he looks like Brad Pitt. That's just like that hot teacher who was charged with having sex with her underage student! Where the judge considered not putting her in jail because she's pretty. Like since when is looks a basis for discrimination! This is no different from discriminating on a sexual or a racial basis. I am sure that PETA is not only concerned with the consumption of dogs in China, but also with the living conditions of livestock in commercial farms. I mean, doesn't it get to you? The ONLY reason these selfish, bigoted people defend dogs/rabbits/cats and what not is because they keep them as pets themselves, or have a soft spot for them. What about the poor chickens who are forced to live in inhumane conditions before being systematically slaughtered? Such people reeks of ignorance and of developed-country-haughtiness. If they really cared about animals, why not care for them as a whole? It's like saying that you are concerned for the plight of a particular race but indifferent to another race. True, you may argue that animals belong to different species. But cruelty prevention laws aren't restricted to specific species: they refer to all non-human creatures as animals (hazy on this, but you get the idea). So for the animal lovers who want to protect their pets' cousins from the dinner table, consider that when you next pick up a chicken. Somewhere, someone may keep a chicken as a pet, and may be vehemently protesting your wanton desecration of their beloved pet. In short, if you think that dog meat is tough, inedible and not at all appealing, this is not talking about you. If you feel that dog meat would be unhygenic and disease-ridden, this is not referring to you. If you believe that dog meat should not be eaten because dogs are loyal/faithful/cute/cuddly/whatever, you are the very idiotic ignoramus that I am griping about in this entry. Stupid animalists. |
