Did you ever watch a movie through to its end, then gasp for breath as you realize that you've just watched one of the greatest movies around, enough to make an impact on you?

I did. Quite a few times, in fact. And today, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind just did that to me again. It's going into my Top Ten movies, along with classics like Shawshank Redemption and Schindler's List. The best movies are the ones which you discover and decide to watch, only to realize that its a real gem. The ones are the cinemas are usually ones to be forgotten. Yet, you never remember to pick up the good ones, only the ones which you know you missed because of marketing efforts.

The movie explores memory loss to a remarkable extent, which I think is something we all think about one way or another. At the end of the day, however, to forget a person you have to forget the good and the bad.

In this, it seems like the lead couple, at least, would want to continue like this forever, or at least linger on in the falling in love part of their relationship, because after awhile the drag gets to them and they cannot take it. Something like this suggests that two people may be really in love, but they just don't get along.

Really deep. To me, I think I'll classify this as a foray into artistic filming, because it is really quite unique and jarring at times. Nevertheless, I loved how Kate Winslet's hair had different colours to help orientate the audience between the timeline. It's kinda like Memento, but while Memento was organized and structured in its abrupt plot, Eternal Sunshine had no such luxury; it was truly chaos in that the direction was dictated solely by the need of the story, rather than to make it a sticking point.

I'm not sure if I loved this movie because of some unrelated reason. Nowadays I've been really bogged down with alot of work. I'm stressed, still good stress, not bad. Not the kind which I hate to face, but rather the kind which I can see a reason to face it. It's been quite dreary, and like how MSG can taste so different if you've had a diet of plain porridge for weeks, perhaps this was a great source of entertainment for me in weeks of routine and toil.

I better get some sleep soon tonight!
