<< reminisce envision >>

My birthday started on the 23rd, when my colleagues went ahead to order in pizza as well as get a nice yummy tiramisu from Breadtalk to surprise me with a small celeb. Honestly, I did not expect it at all, because it was not the actual day itself, but the gesture was really, really thoughtful. So thanks to them.

Headed home, did my stuff, and as the clock struck twelve, the hot babe of my life chimed in with a surprise Birkenstocks for my birthday present, perhaps to replace the pair I faithfully worn a few years back, until it became tattered and torn. My reaction was not taken well by her at all; she took my reaction as disappointment, while actually it was more of like "I don't really need anything, so don't get me anything, but hey, I'm surprised!" kinda thing. But all's well.

The next day was work as usual, really busy day at work with so many stuff going on. Dinner was planned to be at Cafe Biz at Traders Hotel. The selection was strikingly average; I had rosier expectations of everything in general, and it did not pull through for me. Nevertheless, there were some bright spots in the Hong Kong - style fish, the sweet herbal chicken soup and a decent black pepper crab. Was sullied by a lacklustre selection of seafood, horrendous la mian (seriously, why do they even serve that crap) and a few other stuff which did not quite do it.

Halfway through, the dear had the shivers from cold, althought it wasn't exactly very cold. But she was very soon in no mood for desserts, which meant that she was indeed not feeling well. We finished up and headed for home, where she promptly developed a 39 degree fever. Brought her to the clinic to have a look see and make sure its just a fever, nothing dengue and stuff.

Came back and the matriach-to-be insisted on the birthday cake celeb with the tiramisu she bought from Melt Cafe, still the best tiramisu in the whole wide world. We did the deed and I helped myself to the slice and got reminded of just exactly why it was such a hit with me. After having two rounds of tiramisu (the other was at Cafe Biz, which wasn't too bad), this still did it to me. I didn't make that statement for wanting to be politically correct - right before this paragraph I helped myself to the third slice; as of now the cake is half-gone, mostly by me. This time round they had some honey-coated cornflakes which are absolutely delightful. Call me gay, guniang or sweet tooth, I like my dessert treats as much as I do my beansprouts and lady fingers.

So that was it! Now on semi-nursing duty to make sure the feverish girl does not go any higher on the thermometer, and to get her to sweat out the heat, which works for me all the time. She got posted to Geylang Methodist Primary School for her month-long practicum, which is great for her because it is within strolling distance. Note I say strolling, its not even considered walking to get there on time.

Thanks everyone, especially the beloved, for going through so much to make my birthday stand out! I'm not much of a celebrator, so everything was just right! The wishes were very welcome; everyone I hoped remembered did so (except perhaps one or two but we are all busy now) and everyone I hoped would not bother stayed that way this time, so its great.

Till next post!
