Perth has always been a polarizing place for me. I hate that place for a number of reasons. I hate the bad experiences there, which was quite an ordeal when I think back on it. I also hate the lifestyle there and what it represents. However, having stayed there for 3 years, I guess there are plus points to it. For one, I love the food there. When you have ferreted out the good stuff, you can't help but like it. I also love the fact that its a great place to relax and chill. So we are going there yet again. To catch the Perth Royal show, take a few photos which I hope will end up at our wedding reception in the future and just to eat up all the good food on offer there. I just saw another link on Facebook which was disturbing (you need to log in to Facebook to see that). It's a page calling for Boycott on China for eating dog meat. I'm so sick of it. I went through the video attached, the alleged "torture" of dogs. And you know what I saw? I saw dogs getting slaughtered exactly the same way as cows and chickens get slaughtered at an abattoir. Slit their throat and hang them upside down to let the blood drain out. It's the most efficient way. And that is exactly the same way they are killing those dogs? I mean, you ingest meats that are processed the same way on a daily basis, yet choose to outcry on dogs? How hypocritical can you get? It's fine if its something you eat, but if its not, why, make sure the other person doesn't get to eat it. Deprive others of what you yourself do not enjoy. What difference does it make, whether you slaughter a chicken, a cow or a dog? Are dogs any more special than cows? Do they have anything different about them that exempts them from being subjected to the same fate as a cow? If you answer yes, you are just being biased and discriminating. If you apply the same standards to humans, it's called discrimination, and in some jurisdiction its illegal. And they decry the profits in the industry. I mean, really? You go to work at your white-collar job, do nothing while at your desk and just log on to facebook to while away the hours. And you spend that time pushing for a cause so that the poor worker in that video who makes like 1% of what you make loses his job? I honestly doubt any human being will love a job which involves killing animals everyday. It's a messy and thankless job; not only that, but you have to put up with white supremacists trying to take your job away just because you slaughter the equivalent of their 'best friend', their family member who eats food that costs more in a day than you make in a month. And requires medical attention that costs more than what you make in a year. Damn. I tell you, this short-sighted bigotry gets to me everytime. I can't stand people making stupid inane stands about dogs, dolphins, rabbits when they fail to consider the implications of what they are asking. They fail to realize that it is not just an action they are stopping, but an entire culture. They fail to realize that it is not just an 'act of cruelty', but a source of livelihood for many. They fail to realize that while they think they are speaking out against it, they continue on with their own folly (by their very own definition) as if they are faultless. I've been through this again. Until the day it no longer riles me, I'll continue to speak out against this atrocity.
